Research line:

Governance and science-policy interface

Understanding that climate change is a phenomenon that affects all of society, this research line seeks to understand and improve the science-policy interface to favor evidence-based decision-making, aiming for an economically viable low-carbon development path.

For the 2024-2025 period, the line seeks to refine, update, and apply the framework presented in the national report on climate governance of the elements, considering three areas of work. First, work is being done to develop frameworks and concepts that deepen the understanding of climate governance of the elements and their contribution to climate-resilient development. Work also continues principles such as fair climate action, territorial and socio-ecological approaches, anticipatory principles, and good governance.

Second, the line seeks to develop methodologies to operationalize and evaluate climate governance, including a methodological framework to characterize territories and socio-ecological processes. It also considers a regulatory analysis to develop a framework that addresses legal aspects of governance in climate litigation and the development of climate governance indicators. All of this is in the context of monitoring the implementation of the Climate Change Framework Law through the Climate Change Framework Law Observatory.

As a culmination of its efforts, the research line aims to apply its conceptual and methodological developments in real-world scenarios, specifically in the Valparaíso and Magallanes regions. Simultaneously, it aspires to broaden its research scope to encompass South America through comparative studies, thereby extending the reach and impact of its findings.
